DEFIANT VOL 1 (2024)

Born a slave but destined for greatness, Robert Smalls became a Captain in the Union Navy by stealing a Confederate ship. Decades later, retired Congressman Robert Smalls sits down with his grandson to tell the story of his life. Based on historical events.

Just as Robert has met the love of his life and started a family, war breaks out and he is pressed into service aboard a Confederate ship. As he gets to know the almost entirely black crew, Robert hones the skills that will allow him to lead them to freedom.

Robert has seen an opportunity. Freedom is coming to him, but he may not live to see it unless he takes matters into his own hands. So with his family and the members of the crew he trusts, he begins to plan a heist unlike any before.

The night has finally arrived when all of Robert’s work and planning will come to fruition. With the Captain and the other white officers gone, Robert and his compatriots bring their families aboard the CSS Planter, stealing the ship… and themselves.
