In the first comprehensive biography of Hal Foster, author Brian Kane examines the 70-year career of one of the greatest illustrators of the 20th-century. In 1929 Foster illustrated the first realistic, newspaper adventure strip, Tarzan. Tycoon William Randolph Hearst said if Foster would come to King Features, he could do anything and have ownership, and Foster's Prince Valiant debuted in February 1937. Foster's originals are highly prized works of art, and Prince Valiant continues to encourage new artistic interpretations in a wide variety of mediums.
